Re: Holes in C1 rear frame crossmember

Bruce, thanks. Trying to determine approx VIN when the changeover was made from your type of rear frame crossmember to the later one like mine. So far my VIN 300X appears to be the earlies we've come across. Gary....

Re: Holes in C1 rear frame crossmember

Gentlemen is it possible some early C1's didnt have any holes in them? I have a very early 56 (76) and i looked at the rear cross frame and it is completely solid. Everytime i get one thing handled it seems another question pops up. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Bryan

On page 89 of the NCRS Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide for '56-57, it says the changeover from 5 holes to 7 holes was approximately '57 VIN 2800.

        P.S. My '57 VIN ...646 has 5 holes.

            Bryan,

IIRC the holes are carry overs from '55. No holes would be out of the norm.

Looking forward to seeing your very very early '56.

yes Thank you Gentlemen. the more I look and read the less i know. The rear crossmember must be an aftermarket job, it is bolted not rivieted, i will probably start looking for a correct early 56 rear crossmember, I was lucky enough to see an ealry corevtte today up close and personal.

                    Bryan,

Vette Products of Michigan are the only ones that reproduce frame parts from the original GM stamps.

Their rear cross member is the late 57-62 version. The holes will have to be welded and redrilled. Don't know if the have the rivets or not.
