    Continued carb problems...fuel I think

    Hi all,

Have had my 64 3720S carb off numberous times doing this and doing that to it. Have made sure the metering rods are all correct, jets are slightly larger than original for the primary and secondary locations but the car still wants to starve itself of gas on a incline or high rpm. My mechanic friend and I will continue to tackle the problem but any help here is greatly appreciated.

    Side note:
    A. Fuel pump has been checked for proper fuel flow..seems correct.
    B. Haven't checked proper flow of fuel filter but it is new

    Thanks,
    Craig

Check the sock on the fuel pick-up tube in the tank.

Bill that was the first thing I checked the other day. I know it's not fully seated on the tube but it doesn't appear to be folded over.

Should it be fully seated on the tube?

      Thanks,
      Craig

connect a fuel pressure gauge in line with the carb and go for a ride to see if the fuel pressure is falling off.

          Craig:

I don't remember the details. I'd try taking it off if the fuel pressure is low.

check the rubber hose that are attached to the tank to make sure they have not collapsed. make sure you tank vent is working because no air in no gas out. leave the cap loose and go for a ride.

              Hi;

Double check that fuel pump... I was the guy with the sock folded over in the tank.. I fixed that and she ran fine... for about a day... Last night I pulled the fuel pump and low and behold, the pivot was detached in the housing.... fell apart as I removed it.. I have no idea just how it was pumping!! The blasted thing would start no problem, run at normal cruising speed, but every once in awhile she would sputter and buck... like dirt in the carb... and then correct itself... drove me nuts.

I had her out today for a good run.... A-OK.

              Good luck,

              Joel
