Solid Axle 3rd Aarm Core Support

I'm rebuilding a '56 front end. The 3rd arm core support was modified by "Bubba" by welding a big puck of iron on the center section. I am going to replace. I have the later support which lowers the 3rd arm down from the bottom of the crossmember. Can this be done and what alterations will have to be made. Also, the car had no aluminium shims. Should I add these or leave without. Thanks !

Steven, sorry but am having a hard time understanding your description. Posting a photo would help. Definetely, would install the aluminum shims so they front end can be set up correctly. Gary....
