    63 Rear Differential questions

I recentlt took the rear spring down in my car to replace the bushings and clean things up a bit. While the spring was down I took some photos of the rear and I can't figure out wheather I have the original parts or something that's been worked on at some point. The car build date is 5/14/63 the rear date is L 24 2. The rear is stamped CJ 5 2 63.
    My car has a powerglide.
    1. Could it be that a powerglide was built with a 308 rear?
    2. Would a rear cast in Dec. end up in a May car?
    3. There is a tag mounted on the rear. I cleaned it up and checked to see if there was any writting on it but cold find nothing. What was the tag for?
    4. I thought I had the correct 336 rear on the car based on counting the revolutions of the shaft as I rotate the tires. The car certainly doesn't feel like a 308. It is possible the gears were changed out over the years.

Thanks in advance for any help in answering these questions.

Bob, the stamp CJ is a 308 posi. stamp. The tag looks like a 3.36 tag, round with just the bolt hole. Maybe someone change the ring and pinion and did you a favor by changing the tag to let you know what was installed.

I think the L 24 2 date on the carrier is OK. My carrier is also L 24 2 and the build date is CB 4 10 63. My cars build date is 4/20. They must of cast a load of carriers on the 24th.

My 63 was also built on May 14th. It has a rear end housing cast date of C 4 3 (March 4, 1963). If that helps. I still dont think there is a problem with a Dec 62 date on a May car. You just got one of the older housings in the bin.
