    1963 hood prop

    Yesterday, I was going through some parts I saved and discovered something about my 63 hood prop that I wanted to share. When the hood prop is extended there is no hole for a safety bolt like the service replacement hood prop that's on the car now. Does anyone know when these parts started with the hole for a bolt for safety.

    Tim;

    Mine is a July 9/63 build and it does have the bolt hole. I never used it as I use a small "C" clamp instead. I lost a model of an SS racer that I had on the air Cleaner once due to a wind gust. That model at less than $100. was my least concern. I now have a little spider in the paint where the hood took the hit from underneath. The "C" clamp is not as neat as a bolt, but it's a conversation piece.

      I was working on my '59 in the apartment parking lot when a gust of wind closed the hood for me. My head got caught between the hood and the fender. It was a very hard hit, but apparently I have a harder skull. (If the edges of the fiberglass weren't rounded, I would have been sliced wide open.) I now carry a small bolt in the glovebox...

          Tim,I believe that hood prop missing the hole is a 1964 prop. It was suppose to have the hole and Chevy issued a bulletin to drill the hole when those cars built without the prop hole returned to dealers for service.Bob

            Tim,

            If I remember correctly from our correspondence a couple of years ago your car was only built a week or two after my late October car. Just looked at mine and it has the hole.

              Thanks everyone for there responses, here are two pictures of the hood prop I am refering to. It's odd that 63 got this correct with regard to the holes but 64 is not drilled. I assume this hood stay is a 64 part.

                Next time line up the holes on the slidee and the slider so we can be sure it's legit - (Ha!)
