As some of you may know, today was my first experience judging with the NCRS. I have never had the opportunity to do it in the past and it worked out this year to do it. I live quite a distance from my chapter, so it's hard for me to participate as often as I'd like.
Anyway, I arrived early this morning at Carillon Park in Dayton, Ohio for my first day of judging. I pulled in and was instantly greeted by a few of the members I have become familiar with during my membership. I got my packet and waited for the event to begin. The owner / judge meeting was at 8:30. During the meeting I learned I would be judging 63 to 66 chassis.
I was introduced to my partner, Matt Stansbury from the Queen City Chapter of Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a great guy to get hooked up with for my first time. Turns out he has a 63 340HP too, so I knew we'd get along great. Our first car to judge was a Riverside Red 63 340 HP coupe. Matt has lot's of experience and took tons and tons of extra time to make sure we covered every little detail and that I understood fully the procedure of the judging as well as the scoring system. The all day rain added to our challenge of chassis judging as Matt spent most of the time under the cars in the wet grass while I read the judging manual, jotted down deductions and comments all while trying to keep the score sheet dry enough to write on !
When it was over, I was wet, muddy and looked like I just played a full game of rugby in the mud !!
Thanks to Matt, I'm sure I'll return to judge again another day. Thanks to him and the Chapter for making my day one I won't soon forget.
