    C1 Semi-gloss black

Recommendations for "semi-gloss black" used for under hood, etc, parts? The dip painted stuff. Thanks.

I like John Deere Blitz Black, semi-gloss. This is in a spray can.

It's expensive, but any high quality and durable finish will be. Nice color match too.

    I think it's a Seymore product.

Dipping parts is not easy but not impossible.

Mark and others, Seymour (correct spelling) was the inventor of aerosol spray paint. Their Satin Black #98-24 is first class. One of the best we have ever seen. Once again its a cross between semi flat and semi gloss. Anyhow it really has that original look. Painted my 63 jack with it and it look just like a NOS later jack I have. Only drawback is the it takes a long time to dry.
Seymour of Sycamore Inc. 917 Crosby Ave. Sycamore, ILL 60178 800-435-4482. Very inexpensive.

Reproduction of the General's "Chassis Black" has been authorized - is it being done, who knows?

Reproductions of GM #1050104 black chassis reconditioning paint is available. I don't know who the reproduction source is, but many of the Corvette parts vendors carry it. Quanta is one that I think has it. However, as when it was available from GM, it is sold in gallons, not spray cans.

GM used to have a black spray can paint, too. However, it was NOT the same paint sold in gallons under GM #1050104.

All paints that are highly durable will require a long drying time. So, if a paint takes a long time to dry, you pretty much know it will be very durable. If it dries quickly, you can be pretty well assured that it won't be really durable.

Blitz Black was Dale Pearman's favorite for C1 restorations. I don't doubt that it's very correct for C1 restorations so, since a C1 is what's involved here, I'd say it's the one to use. However, while Blitz Black is a great, high quality paint, I really don't think it's an "exactly correct" finish for many
C2 and C3 applications. Some, but not many.
