Re: wd40 or penetrating oil
Hi Tom
The best stuff I have found is called Kano Aerkroil (spelling?). It's made in Nashville Tn. Spray it on and let it work, sometimes overnight. I think you will break a lot less bolts. I have had very poor success using WD40 on badly rusted fasteners.

Re: wd40 or penetrating oil
I've used Kroil successfully for about 6 years. I'm convinced it's superior to WD40, PB Blaster, liquid wrench.
A couple of weeks ago I did a quasi-experiment on the entire exhaust system of the '67 I bought last January by putting Kroil on half the nuts and 'Deep Creep' on the other half. I didn't find any difference between the two (all were easy), but must admit that I didn't try loosening a single nut w/o penetrant. (Could the fasteners have not been as corroded as they appeared?? I only considered they must be rusted solid since the date on the Midas records which came with the car indicated the mufflers were installed in 1974!)
However Deep Creep is somewhat easier to obtain than Kroil, at least here in central North Carolina.
WD40 was designed for water displacement (i.e. WD).

WD40 has it's uses but effectiveness as a penetrating oil is not high on the list.- Top

PB Blaster is wonderful stuff. I buy it by the case. Readily available and inexpensive. John D- Top

Re: wd40 or penetrating oil
I have used PB Blaster and Kroil (Aerokroil). Both work well. Kroil seems a bit better (but that might be my imagination). You can get Kroil from Kano labs here:
The Industry Leader in Professional-Grade Penetrating Oils, Lubricants and Grease. Our family of brands includes Kroil and Super Lube®.
I got mine at Cabelas in the gun section but I haven't seen it there lately.
PB Blaster you can get at your local auto parts places.
