    Restorer Article

Can some one please tell me when the article on removing and installing mid year dash clusters appeared in the "Restorer". If not the issue at least the year. This particular article suggested using dowel rods to hold the dash gauge panel while you were working on it. Thanx, John D.

AS Joel States I needed the info from Corvette Enthusiasts. But forget it now as I can suffer without reading the article. Thanks very much.

    John,

I recall seeing such an article in Corvette Enthusiast within the past 3 years, but not the Restorer. Maybe it was in both at different times.

No problem John. I figured a chef like you can use all the help you can get out in the garage.

          Re: Restorer Article, dash cluster,

          Hi John,
If you get 4, 1/4x20 x6" bolts at the hardware store it is real easy. Just remove the dash screws and insert the long screws in 4 places. Once that is done you should drop the steering column, actually it is pretty easy to just remove the column. Them you can slide the cluster back and replace any bulb you want. Do not let it scare you just take your time and it's easy.

            Re: Restorer Article, dash cluster,

Bill, I just have to replace one of the 257 bulbs for the headlight side. Seems the existing bulb doesn't flash. Just comes on and glares real bright though. Call me. Thanx, John

              John,

Bill Bryan's comments are right on. When pulling the steering column and than reinstalling it through the firewall, be careful that you do not scratch the paint on the column or you will be touching it up. I'd also remove the four seat bolts and pull the driver's seat to protect it from damage.

Either the MAC or Mason Dixon Chapter published an article on this in one of their news bulletins. I may have it on one of my NCRS restoration disks.

John, If you have a flexible friend with thin arms that bulb can be changed without removing anything.

That's what I was thinking too. Seems like I remember a friend doing that many years ago.

Joe, I understand that our own Roy Sinor is able to change the 257 by reaching his long arm of the law up there with no problem. That is the rumor anyhow. Maybe I will just leave it alone and put Roy to work at Seven Springs don't u think.
                    Thanks, Joe

Mikey, U would think that you could be able to do the job for desparate poor old JD. I mean the show is next week!
Now here this. A good friend and member of our Pittsburgh chapter made me an offer I can't refuse. He said just remove the seat and provide nice comforter and pillow and Mike said he would most likely be able to change the 257 without taking anything apart! Said he has done it before. I will keep you all posted. JD

Are you getting the car judged! That's cutting it close if something goes wrong.

If you can't get to it I will be at the meet and will certainly help you get it changed.

                        See you there!! Joe
