    62 generator rebuild

Just had my gen rebuilt. Should the ammeter be charging to the right most of the time? The battery was checked & is fine. It will charge for awhile on the gauge & then drop a little toward the discharge side. Do you need to polarize the gen when installing?

Yes, it should be polarized. With a full charge it will NOT show charge all the time.

After you disconect them, they usualy have to be polarized. Not always. But usually.

After the car is started, the needle will point way over to charge. After runing for a few minutes, the needle will gradually move more to the center.

At idle, the needle will show a slight discharge. Put the headlights and heater fan on, and it'll show a big discharge.

This is the same way my 62 ammeter always performed. Just in case you wanted more opinions.
