Hi All;
I know a number of you have been following and contributing to the threads which I started regarding my 1963 stumbling on acceleration. I am happy to report that the problem has been solved.. All of you who called out "fuel" should get a gold star (or perhaps a gold Corvette sticker). The problem was fuel after all but there were some ignition issues as well.
What it turned out to be is the sock on the fuel pick up. When I did the mechanical restoration on the car I bought a new fuel sender. The sock on the end of the sender was folded over to get the whole thing to fit in the box. I should have slid the sock all the way down on the fuel pickup tube to eliminate the fold and to fully set it on the tube... Duh! Evidently, the fold in the sock was right over the fuel inlet causing a blockage and I would imagine that the folded sock was stuffed right under the pickup tube as it lay on the bottom of the tank..
I removed the fuel pickup, pushed the sock all the way down onto the tube, blew out the line (nothing but fuel in it BTW) and reassembled and with 5 gallons of saved gas head off down the street. It now runs like a watch, not a stumble to be had....
I guess this is one for the books! Anyway my sincere thanks to all of you who pitched in with your thoughts and ideas. While it was not the core problem, this exercise provided the opportunity to straighten out some issues with my distributor as well. Tomorrow I will put the spare tire tub back in place and get the tank filled!!
Regards!!
Joel
