    1967 435 A.I.R. questions

This is my first A.I.R. build and I have a few questions: Is the smog pump painted orange and also was it on during the first engine painting? Where there any french locks on the exhaust manifolds? They don't seem to fit. Where the exhaust manifolds on during engine painting? Tubes on, plugs, or just holes in the manifolds when or if it was painted orange. Is the AIR going to make it harder to get this engine running right? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

None of the A.I.R was painted or in place when they painted the engine. It was added during engine dress. And I not sure what you mean harder to run? my A.I.R. car runs just fine.

      Jeremy:

I don't think you'll find any issues getting your car to run well with the A.I.R. I would just be sure that the pump and valve are in good working order before installation.

So no french locks? Pump bracket orange or natural?

Thanks for the pics, looks like no french locks and the bracket for pump is orange.

Jeremy, I think the exhaust manifold french locks are in place, although difficult to see in the pic.
After they're installed, the center section is bent out and downward to clear the AIR pipe.

As far as I know, the 435 hp cars did not come with A.I.R. Is yours a true 435 hp car or is it a 390/400hp?

                  Yes, they were available.

Maybe I was thinking of the 66, because it was not an option for Corvettes with horsepower ratings above 390hp on a big block, and only on California cars for 1966.

Yes, for 1966, L-72 Corvettes delivered in California were not equipped with K-19 while all other engines were. However, for 1967 ALL California delivered Corvettes were K-19-equipped. For 1968-69 ALL Corvettes, no matter where delivered or what engine, were equipped with an AIR system.

                        Joe,

It's a good thing I have you to follow me around today and correct me when I lead people astray and speak out of just plain ignorance!

                        Thanks for your help.
