    Throw out bearing lubrication

I'm in the garage installing the transmission (4 speed). The Luk clutch kit does note come with any directions. The assembly manual shows grease on the outside of the throwout bearing where it attaches to the fork. The Luk kit comes with a small amount of grease and an instruction to grease the input shaft, with no mention of the outside of the throwout bearing.

Should the outside of the throwout bearing be greased? Other than a slight pivot, I don't see any potential movement of this piece.

    Tom,
I think in the 63 service manual it say's to grease the inside of the bearing where there is a detent. I hope I am saying this correctly and I don't believe there is any mention of lubricating the bearing retainer coller. I am sure grease does not go on the outside of the bearing, all this would do is get thrown around and eventually end up "you know where".

Older style release bearings required that the groove on the inside circumference of the bearing be packed with grease. New style bearings have no groove and don't require said packing. All you need to do is apply a LIGHT film of grease on the inside circumference of the bearing and also in the groove which articulates with the clutch fork. That's it.
