    67 Tires, again.

I just bougth a 67 Survivor conv that has the wrong tires on it. I am going to have it judged in June and have it bowtie sign offed and I have few tire options I would like to run by you guys.
#1. Leave the Uniroyal Tiger Paws radials on.
#2. Bias ply redlines, (red/red car) cause they would look so cool.
#3. Bias ply blackwalls (cause thats what the tank sticker shows).
What am I going to lose on each option? I don't mind the bias ply, although in the minority here. Iam leaning towards redlines but I don't want lose alot for them. Thanks for you input. Jeff

    Well,
I appreciate a Survivor car but the car is 41 years old and you are going to take a hit on incorrect tires. So why not take the same hit on points no matter what the sidewall is and go with the redlines which will make you happier. The other option is try and find original (dry rotted) NON DOT blackwall bias plys and push the car around by hand. I am not sure of the points lost but do you want a trailer queen or would you like to drive it occasionally?

The tank sticker is not judged so you choose what you want.

Page 21 of the Judging Reference Manual will show you the standard deduction levels in Flight Judging for the various tire configurations/brands available to you. For Star/Bowtie judging it doesn't matter - anything other than the original tires will get the same deduction.

            Jeff,

Just a bit of additional info: not all suppliers offered a red line tire in 1967, so
be sure to look into this in advance. I know Firestone had a red line, but I do not think Uniroyal did.

I don't have the JG in front of me, but,
I believe it states the RPO suppliers for '67 redlines were Goodyear, General and Uniroyal Laredo.
              Awaiting confirmation.

You should not be changing anything on a car destined for Bowtie juding. It can only be original once- after that it's called restoration.

And out of the list of manufacturers Michael posted, the Goodyear reproduction tire will be the closest to original for judging purposes

I've had very good results being judged and driving on the repo Goodyear red lines I bought from Kelsey Tire. After not driving on bias ply tires for decades and hearing horror stories about bad handling, I found them to be very manageable, not as great handling as radials, but not so bad either. An added bonus is the bias ply tires look better on the car then the radials.

After all I have read I think I'll go with the Goodyear. Mike, the tires that are on there are far from right so that is why I'm looking for something closer and cooler. Thanks for all the input it all helps this newbie! Jeff

Don't forget to order all five tires.
                          Good Luck with your project!

'67 redline tires came from Firestone (Super Sports), Goodyear (Power Cushion), and Uniroyal (High Performance).
