I finally located the stenciled numbers and shim marks on my frame. After that info is all documented, Is there any reason to remove the undercoating, rust etc by any method other than blasting if that is the chosen method for cleaning the frame?

Re: Sandblasting the undercoating from the frame
I went even further by tracing the marks on saran wrap that was marked to reference it to the body mounts or other frame attributes. Of course, saran wrap is a fairly fragile material to document marks, but it was what I had on hand at the time...handled carefully, it should be useful for the purpose.
Get eye contact with the person doing the blasting and make him understand that you want him to avoid direct blast on any stampings on the frame, and the VIN derivative stamps in particular. If you want to be sure the VIN stamps aren't removed or damaged during blasting (operators tend to forget), you should cover them with a band of sheet steel.- Top
