    '69 Rocker Molding Paint

    Hey there - I purchased some NOS rocker moldings for my '69 that need to be painted. Does anyone know the proper black paint type (glossy/flat, etc.), or perhaps have a brand they would recommend and/or a place where I can purchase it?

    Any advice is be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance -

    Hi Rob,
    I looked in the 68-69 Tech Manual and item 12 in the Exterior Section notes that the fiberglass part is semi-flat black and the smaller metal trim is also semi-flat black with a polished upper rib.
    Krylon #1613...Sherwin Williams?

      First, prime them with a red oxide primer, easily available in spray cans. The originals were primed with red oxide primer.

      Then, I would use a very low gloss black. I think you will find that John Deere "Blitz Black" is just about right for this application.

          FYI - for those looking to purchase the John Deere "Blitz Black", I spent the good part of the day trying to track it down.

          I finally found a place http://www.richardsonsaw.com/.

          Here is a direct link to the 12oz spray cans (a good price at $8.88 ea.);

            I think you'll find it was worth the effort to locate. Actually, in general I'm not a huge fan of Blitz Black. However, for these 68-69 sill moldings, I think it's about the best thing out there. The degree of low gloss and "eggshell" finish texture is about as close to the original finish as you'll find.

              Thanks again Joe - my exhaustive search was based upon your recommend and expertise. I also ran across quite a few other blogs that sang the praises of the Blitz Black. It is supposed to be highly durable which sounds perfect for my application.

              All the best,
