C2 Italian Gas Gage-How does it know?

Thought I'd liven things up a bit.

I'm going to the San Jose Chapter meet for this Saturday, a short 130 mile drive. Requirements are that to enter the San Jose Convention Center, you need to have less than 1/4 tank of gas in the tank by Fire Department rules.

Since I don't trust the gas gage on my 67, I came up with this:

But how does it know? Well, I did a scientific study of my 67 gas tank. Measured the depth of my 20 gallon tank at 10". By Italian math that means 2 gallons per inch.

Might be a little flakey towards the bottom due to the curves in the tank.
But it is probably more accurate than the gas gage on the instrument panel.

And you can probably interpolate between marks.

Just kidding guys, glad to be here.

Hey Jerry, that's excellent. Could you send the blueprint to me? I need one too for the 66.

I figure 3 to 4 hours depending how frisky you get is about a BUCK a ride at current fuel rates.

That's funny, whenever I'd eat at my Polish grandmother's I'd have excess gas for days. Must have been all the cabbage (bigos).

Do you think that gas gage would pass a PV or at least a Founder's ops?

As a kid growing up on the Great Lakes, that device had many other names beyond 'Italian'. It was commonly seen at marina gas docks where classic mahogany Chris Craft speed boats from the 40's, 50's and 60's would gather to re-fuel...

We had a "gas stick" similar to that in our 1940's Gar Wood speedboat.
