Why ,oh why would the factory apply the right hand Tonawanda valvecover label before the engine painting process? How did the factory mask the decal during the painting process? You view original cars and there is definitely a lip of paint next to the label. Something that has been bothering me

This is "how" the decal was installed before painting, after painting a pull on the tab removed the top cover. Bob Jorjorian

Amazing, However, wouldn't there be a lack of orange paint under the tab area? I do not remember noticing this. Thank you for your response.

I suppose if the gun were swept from left to right at just the right angle, the air pressure would lift the tab enough that the paint would be able to cover the area under the sticker's tab.

That is not just a 1967 detail -- it goes all the way to the end of the Mark IV engine in Corvettes.
