    Bill,
Actually storing a lead/acid battery in the cold is better than storing it at room temperature. The function of the battery is dependent on a chemical reaction, and that reaction is slowed down the colder the environment where it is stored -- so long as the battery is and remains fully charged. If it discharges the liquid will partially revert to water and thus freeze. That expansion will usually result in the end of the life of the battery.

I have 4 cars with restoration batteries, both acid type and gel.
i have 3 cars with modern Delco batteries. All are attached to battery tenders. Most cars get "driven" once every 3-4 months or so for short
exercise drives. The oldest restoration battery is 6 years old. I have no issues. I am suprised by the problems that everyone seems to have on this post.
