Your scientific approach is probably the right one and I need to find someone like that here in New Jersey reasonably close by who has the skill and equipment.... I'll putz with it through the weekend (supposed to rain here anyway on Saturday) and see where I am by Sunday afternoon.

Ask anyone in the race or vintage race crowd... The folks with chassis dynos and the fixturing to run them correctly for proper diagnosis (air flow meter for intake, spark waveform analyzer, exhaust gas analyzer) ARE out there! And, you will not be dealing with a young 'whippersnapper' who's never seen a carb before and only know how to plug into the engine analyzer port for diagnostics!!!!

Had stumbling experience on my '64 from a dead stop. Turned out to be a small piece of aluminum from when the carb was cast had broken off and was inside the carb. Couldn't see it but when you shook the carb your could hear it rattle about. Chuck Anderson drilled a hole and was able to remove the little piece of aluminum, fixed the hole and all was well.
