    ART-

$25.45 with tax for 6 cans. Should've shopped where you did.

      Re: Krylon 1613 discontinued

Sherwin Williams paint stores in the Baltimore area have #1613. I bought some more to have on hand. It seems like what those in the thread has discovered is true here too. None at Walmart but plenty at paint stores. I feel about #1613 the way my wife feels about chocolate.

Found 7 cans of the 1613 at Truevalue in Charleston, Illinois so I should be set for awhile.

JUst went to my local ACE this evening. Paid $3.79 per can for KRYLON semi-flat 12 oz. spray can #1613. Bought all 6 cans he had. He checked on his computer for me and says that the distribution center/warehouse shows over 1000 lots (there are 6 cans to a lot), I ordered another 6 cans.

If this is true should we try and buy several more lots?

I know that the advocates of paints other than 1613 must think we're nuts, but I now have around a dozen cans in stock. Being in the midst of a body-off and having started with 1613, I feel like I need the insurance. I've paid anywhere from $2.98/can at WalMart (while it was in stock) to $3.99 at Sherwin Williams to $4.99 at Michaels Art Supply. So long as Krylon will continue to produce 1613 via their industrial line, we're probably being overly cautious. But then again, they've been known to discontinue products without consulting us. Can you imagine?

I made a side by side comparison of the new, reformulated, 51613 and the original 1613. The new product is toluene based and much more glossy than the original 1613. It definitely was not a satin finish as indicated on the can and nowhere close to the flat appearance of the original 1613. After 34 hours, the new product was still not fully dry. When shown the results of my comparizon, my local Ace hardware store immediately refunded the the price I had paid for the new product.

                Re: Krylon 1613 discontinued

With Sherwin-Williams now owning VHT, Dupli-Color and Krylon, you will find that the "automotive" types of products are being steered more towards Dupli-Color and VHT.

Dupli-Color has two semi-gloss black Engine Paints (higher temp. paint than regular.) One is #DE1634 GM/Chrysler Low Gloss Black. The other is #DE1635 Ford Semi-Gloss Black. Of course, don't go by the names. I don't know how the gloss compares to the Krylon #1613, but it is very nice paint.

I hit the Ace Hardware and picked up the five cans they had on their shelf. While the 1613 is labeled as Semi-Flat...Krylon also has a 1602 described as Ultra-Flat. Anyone try this product? I picked up a can but haven't used it yet.

Jimmy and others. I think we are all going over board on this Krylon thing. I mean I bought 12 cans of 1613 from Traver's Tool. There is NO SHORTAGE of this paint. It is available from numerous sources.
Yes we may have heard it is discontinued but the suppliers have boo coo cans in stock. John D.

There's something here I can't figure out. Apparently, it's been confirmed that the Krylon 1613 remains available in the Krylon-Industrial paint line. I prefer the industrial paint line because the paint is more durable than the "mass-marketed" type. So, why is everyone going out and scooping up all of the "mass-marketed" 1613 they can find?

Another problem: if you keep spray can paint around for a long time, it often loses its propellant charge. I've got more useless cans of spray paint around here than you could imagine.

Joe you said a mouthfull. I have more useless cans of Krylon dull aluminum and semi gloss black. I was old by RJ that I could punch a nail in the bottom of the useless can and drain the paint into a jar. Yeah sure. Those spray cans have a short shelve live. I guess we are all tired of our favorite stuff being discontinued. It is happening at a very fast pace anymore. AS times keep getting worse the bean counters look at the numbers of what is selling and what is not. john D.

Read the above post by John Randolph. The 2 products are not the same. I must be lucky. I've never had a can of paint go dead. I just started using a can of 1613 that is at least 5 years old and it's fine.

I did read John's post. He compares the original 1613 to the reformulated 511613. I have no doubt that those are different. Both of these are the mass-marketed type Krylon paints. However, if you read elsewhere in this thread you will note that others have confirmed that the 1613 remains available in Krylon-Industrial paint line. This is the higher quality paint line which, while a little harder to find than the consumer variety, is usually a higher quality product.

If you have spray cans that are 5 years old and they still work, you are very lucky. Sometimes, I find that if a can of paint is totally unused, it will still work after an extended period. Usually, it won't, but sometimes it will. If you use a can, it will rarely work again after extended non-use. This occurs even if you are scrupulously careful about cleaning the nozzle after each use (which I ALWAYS do) OR if you replace the nozzle with a new one.

Joe, I'm glad I'm not the only one here with a cabinet full of "spent" spray cans in Krylon 1613, dull aluminum, semi-flat black, etc. Push the valve, pfffft, Dat-dat-dat-dat's all Folks!
