63 fuel injection

not real familiar with the injection cars but I am negotiating on a split window to go with my 65 coupe. does the injection unit have the actual number stamped on it or it is supposed to have a tag? just curious if someone does not mind giving their opinion on the car. blue with blue interior, matching #'s, good body with older driver quality paint " needs paint" nice interior, repro ko's older decent chrome basically a good original driver. original under the hood but someone chromed the injection top and valve covers. is 60K out of line on this car? I know fuelies are popular but not sure of the market on this condition of car and I have not owned a 63 before thanks in advance.

What number are you referring to? 63 & early 64 units don't have the Vin # stamped on the unit. There is a tag on the drivers side of the plenum, that will tell you if it's a 375 unit. The Vin# began mid-to -late 64 on the 380 unit. Is the car you are looking at in NJ by any chance???

Real Fuel cars are usually pretty good property.
You might check the archives, we covered a lot of information that may be pertinent to your situation a couple of weeks ago.

as mike lombardi noted, the 63 FI uniots are 375(the last three #'s in the Rochester tag on the drivers side of the plenum. give us the serial # of the rochester and an approximate vin of the 63 and we can make an educated guess if the fi unit and the car left st louis together. mike

I do not remember seeing a tag on the unit anywhere maybe it was removed when they polished the top? car vin is somewhere around 20,500 and is not currently in n.j. but I was told pro team got it out of n.j. in the early 90's good car or a dud for that money? thanks! darren

Could be OK, or could be a waste of money, is the Block the original? Is the rad core support the correct '63-only version? Deduct for polished unit, to be "correct" would have to be completely redone, How is the rest of the car? Early or late? If early does it have the buzzer tach? Way too much open to give you and honest opinion as to value on a car no-one has seen. Pro-Team history from the 90's would lead me to look VERY HARD at the car, any paper trail or documentation pre pro-team?

block appears to be original, not sure to look for on the support, late care with good body fit but has a a little work it appears under the fender lips. interior nice. guy has the original wheels and caps, has ko's now. he has the original shifter and radio also, states that car does not have original trans and no docs before pro team. pro team a little fishy on these cars back then? he said this was the best fuelie pro team had twenty years ago when he went up there to buy. good frame, basically a "twenty footer" good driver. sill plates have six screws instad of four. thanks for your opinions. darren

OK, let's get to basics, all '63 Corvettes used a rad core support that has a "hump" on either side as a reinforcement. It is located at the bottom of the foreword facing face of the support. the 64-up models did not use this feature and after '64 the '63 style was not available in service. In fact, the '64-65 core support became the ONLY smallblock service core support for the 1963-65 corvettes. Because of that, a lot of "homemade" FI cars were built over the years, so looking for '63-only parts is one good place to start before buying a '63. I'd find a local NCRS member who is conversant with 63's and have him take a look at it for or with you. Although not a 100% gaurantee, the correct core support is a good starting place to find s "real" 63 fueler.
