Can anyone identify for me the application for ACDelco spiral shock part number 3171173? It is a rear shock. Thanks.

Garry, it must be beyond '62 P&A or early as it's not listed. However, I do have a '67 Special Information catalog that said; "ID # 3171173 is Part # 3166521 Don't find the 3166521 nor the 3171173 listed in the '66 P&A. Sorry, don't have very much after '62. Have all 53-62. Good luck, Gary....

            Garry----

The on-shock part number for the vast majority of shocks is not the same as a SERVICE part number. I have cross-reference information for some of these on-shock part numbers with the SERVICE part number, but not this one.

Gary's finding that shock ID #3171173 equates to GM #3166521 was very helpful, though. These shocks were originally applicable to 1962-64 Chevy II with HD suspension. They will also work for 65-67 Chevy II with HD. suspension.

Gary and Joe thank you so much. Any idea if this shock will work on the 56-early 59 corvettes? From the picture that I have seen the shock mounts at each end look to be the same, but I don't know the length of the rear shocks. The fronts that go with this set of rears have the double tab shock mounts on one end so I know that those won't work. Front and rears are spiral and the rears have the rock guard.

More information: Both boxes are from Shockfinders out of Colorado, but don't know if they are still in business. They do have all the correct Delco stampings on each. Shockfinders PS 1060 and PS 1132 fronts and backs.

                Anyone ever hear of Shockfinders?
