Hello Guys, I am a long ago member of NCRS and have recently rejoined after about 13 years without a corvette. Well I a have just purchased a 1965 coupe, 1 owner, original paint, never hit, all bonding strips in place, original motor, trans, interior, carb, regulator, starter, intake, shocks, and pretty much every thing else. 42000 original miles and lots and lots of documentation. I have only had it a couple of weeks and droped the spare to find it is the original that came with the car. Owner passed last year and his wife finally decided to let it go. She stated it had always been garaged which would account for the original paint which is still very nice considering its age. The things I know that have been replaced are the carpets ( owner stated it got ragged years back), exhaust, tires of course, All new brake system, Rear stabilizer bar and hardware, radiater ( He saved the original and I have it and hope to have it repaired), Turn signal switch, belts and hoses (he saved the original radiator hoses which are still in fair shape). Headlamps not T3,The motor has been repainted but the engine compartment has not been spray bombed. He did paint the underside of the hood a metalic blue. I am sure there are some more things that I am not aware of but over all a very nice original car. Ok here is where I would like some advise. I have always wanted a midyear and have always said when I finally got it it would have sidepipes. Well this one does not and I am not sure I want to cut the car. If it sounds like It maybe a Bowtie canidate with the incorrect parts I stated above I probably wont do it. It seem to me most of the parts that have been replaced are thing that any car with this many miles would have been replaced. Except the carpet and repainting the engine. Will the carpet alone prevent the interior from receiving the interior star. Also if i did add the sidepipes would this prevent me from getting the bowtie award. The reality is I dont have a chapter very close and would be hard pressed to find a truck and trailer to make the trip so I may never even try for the Bowtie award. I ordered the recommended judging manual that talks about all the awards but this did not answer my questions. This is very long and I hope I get my question across so that it makes since. Any responses would be appreciated. Thanks Mike

Re: Hello, and original car advise
Michael. Clean it gently and leave it alone. Org. cars are very few and far between. If a Factory side pipe 65-67 is what you always wanted. I'd suggest to enjoy the car for now. Later, pass it on to an enthusasist who'll also appreciate the history and uniquess the 65 offers. Having had TR-6's and chrome bumper MBG's in the past. I subscribe to the British and European style of ORGINAL not restored, is always is the way to go. But damn Lucas electric.- Top

Re: Hello, and original car advise
Mike,
What are the tires like?
Where do you live? I'm not trying to be nosey, but sometimes there are events near-by that are not well advertised.
If you could drive it to a near-by Regional, I am sure Dale Fiet and crew would be happy to evaluate your car for possible Bowtie status and offer you some advice in the direction of what to do to the car. In the mean time be gentle with the cleaning.
Sounds like the original owner had his priorities in order.Terry- Top

Re: Hello, and original car advise
Yeah Dick, Had a 72 Toyota Landcruiser in early 80's. Put on the left turn signal one day. All elec, went OUT. Dead battery nxt AM. etc. Searched high and low with volt meter on all electrical. Couldn't trouble shoot it. Turned out to be a BAD fuse shut down the hole system. I used to think Lucas was bad.- Top

Re: Hello, and original car advise
I don't see anything listed on the events page until the Cincinnati Chapter meet in September, but I would bet there are some SE activities that are not shown on the events page yet. Maybe some of those Chapter members will pipe up here or PM you.Terry- Top

Re: Hello, and original car advise
William it is not a 396 car. I guess what I thought was a rear stabilizer bar is probably not what the bar in the rear that is attached to the brake housing is called.
Reba thanks for the Info. I am just trying to get some more info on the Bowtie award. There seems to be not much interest in actually telling what is allowed to not be correct and still pass. I will contact per your suggestion.- Top
