'70 BB Exhaust Manifold Question

A '70 454 does not use exhaust manifold gaskets, correct? I didn't think that they were used originally, however, the FelPro gasket set I picked up came with a pair. Does anyone recommend thread locker for the bolts or some type of sealant for the mating surfaces? Thanks.

They did not come with gaskets, but every head set or overhaul set I have ever purchased came with them. Normally you should not need a sealer if the surfaces are clean. I use Permatex Copper Coat high temperature silicone in a very limited amount around the ports for insurance. I always wipe the excess off before it sets up. When I am wearing my judges hat evidence of a sealer there would be a minimal originality deduction

Thread-locker isn't necessary, but anti-seize is - will simplify later removal and prevent galling the threads.
