      Kinda what I thought too. Also good to know the temp gauge is reading dead on! I was surprised at how hot some of the heater hoses were as well as the exhaust manifold.

        Your exhaust manifold temperatures are good. They indicate whether the engine has the correct total idle timing, and they should be no more than about 500 F on a non emission controlled car.

        A ported vacuum advance system used on emission controlled engines will raise the exhaust manifold temperature several hundred degrees.
