on my 66 small block there is a plate that installs with the fuel pump, would it be natural or orange?

The fuel pump plate was NATURAL, BARE STEEL. It was installed at St. Louis. They usually rust rapidly unless enough engine oil drips on them from valve cover leaks to protect them.

Joe, that being the case that the fuel pump plate was installed at St.Louis begs the question - how was the oil kept in the engine during hot run up? Gary....

They stuck a plug in it; the engine only ran for about 30 seconds, and there was no oil under pressure in the pushrod hole or in the drain cavity.
