Welcome to the TDB. Recommend you search the archives as there's been lots of discussion about insurance coverage, stated value, etc. and related companies. Gary....

Mine is with American Collectors and they paid off stated value plus appreciation in full on a loss of a Corvette four years ago.

          John,

Have you had a claim with State Farm? That's when you find out what you have.
I had State Farm with an Agreed Value rider and was just uncomfortable with how a claim was going to be handled with an adjuster who also does Impalas.
I switched to Hagarty based on some positive feedback here about fair claim service.

No claims thankfully so of course I am happy.

The other issue with specialty insurers is the liability portion. You may need to raise it to meet the minimums before your umbrella policy kicks in. Some of the quotes I got would not raise their liability but hagerty does.

The archives do not have a lot of insurance claim experience to make a judgement call

          Randy

When I went to Spring Carlise I asked many insurance companies why I should insure with them and they were all the same (price & insurance coverage). So I stayed with American Collectors and have no regrets. Good luck with whomever you choose. Bill Lehmann

I had my 63 insured thru AAA, while undergoing restoration.
Since the car is now 99% complete, I am having it insured with Hagarty.
I set the value at $ 80,000.00. Yearly projected driving: 2,000 miles. Cost per year: $ 608.00. They required (1) photo.
I also insured a 71 El Camino with them, value: 15,000 miles/year. Cost: 250/year. So it is relative to the value you set for your car...
I also had a quote from another insurance company, and it was similar - 638/year.
I chose Hagarty, since it has a good reputation and is located in Michigan (Traverse City). I live in Farmington Hills, Mi.

Randy, I've heard the same story about State Farm claims falling far short of the true value of the car. They require the owner to prove beyond fact that the vehicle is worth stated value. They put the burden of work on the owner and still won't pay out the full amount. Hagerty and Grundy are good.

I (and many of my fellow club members) have ours through Farm Bureau and it's CHEAP. Farmers Insurance will also insure a collectable but it's more expensive.

I couldn't believe the price. I had this conversation on this forum about a year ago. Some people won't feel comfortable but I did because of my documentation.

Welcome Lee. The choice is yours of course. I use Hagarty for my 67. MOST IMPORTANT: Get an agreed value. That's what you feel your car is worth, and they agree to insure it for that amount in the event it's (hard to write this) totaled. That hurt. Bill.

I did a substantial amount of research a few years ago, and switched my policy from a State Farm Antique Policy to Hagarty. I am very happy, and haven't looked back.

                            Re: insurance for a 63

My 63 has been with State Farm since new. About mid 1970's, I switched it to a stated value policy with all my Liabilities based on my Family driver (which was usually new as I worked for GM). In 1992 I hit a deer at only about 35 MPH, but the damage was expensive (not extensive). State Farm adjuster worked with me to set up the repairs, insuisting on using NOS fiberglass replacement sections. They were adament about the repairs being done to my satisfaction, to return the car to it's stated value condition. They went above and beyond, and they paid out a good sum more than what a quick and dirty low bidder job would have done. They let me pick the shop and supported me all the way.

Since then, I have routinely upped my stated value on a regular basis to keep up with the market. They too have supported me on this all along, asking only that they see the car every couple years, take pictures and filed a report with the adjusters in support of the value.

Granted, I have all my other coverages with them incl. home, my other cars, and a substantial Umbrella policy, and have been insured with them since age 16 in Wisconsin, Illinois and now in Florida.

I suspect many will have different stories to tell you, both good and bad. I believe a lot depends on the agent you are working with and I have now been with three different State Farm agents all, of which, have served me well.

I have my cars covered with Hagarty and have been very satisfied. My premium is aprox. 1% of my stated insured value with no deductible. I had a claim two years ago as the result of some poor driving on my part and was very happy with how I was treated.
