    Thanks Mr. Pirkle!

I just got my dated and correct starter for my '72 delivered to my doorstep to day!
Hats off to Mr. Pirkle for doing a great job!

    Bryan,
What was his estimate time of repair? 8 weeks? What was the actual time of repair, in weeks?

Bryan, since you have one of each, is your 68 L79 faster than your 72 LT-1?

        Bryan,

I recently received a starter as well from John Pirkle. It showed up on the front doorstep also. I had forgotten about it, I think when I spoke to John, he said he would build a correct original one for me, I think we spoke back in November, I hadn't heard from him, so I assumed he just forgot, but I had given him my CC number and a tag was included in the box.

It looks beautiful, he said he had only seen 2 original cases with the numbers & date that I needed, out of a quarter million starter cases. I feel fortunate that he was able to accomodate me. I still need an original correct starter for the other '71 as well. For now I'll just keep it in the box until my incorrect starter gives up the ghost.

          Rick,
I ordered it at the Kissimmee meet in Jan. I was quoted a 8 week delivery time but Mr. Pirkle called to tell me that it would take a longer to get it to me.
The delay was fine by me because I wasn't in any kind of hurry to receive it.

            Jim,
I don't think I can really do a fair comparison of my 68 with the 327/350hp to my 72 LT-1. I was talked into using the flat top pistons to lower the compression during the rebuild of the 327 engine and I used a little milder cam. The cam is a 325hp made by Wolverine. I has great street manners and is a nice little driver.
But anyways, the '72 is a screamer and feels a whole lot faster than the '68.

              Warren,
I actually called him yesterday to check on the starter. He told me it that it went out Friday. The UPS man rang my doorbell yesterday afternoon and there it was. At the Kissimmee meet, he had 2 available that fit my 72 LT-1 application.

                Bryan,
I have a 67 L79 (327/350) and I was following a crate 67 big block on the 2 mile straight at the GM Proving grounds event for the Michigan Regional. When we got out after the run I had a fellow, who I don't know and failed to identify, come up to me and ask what big block engine I had. I laughed and said it was a recent rebuild to a stock 327/350 and he said he was impressed as he had a 72 LT-1 and was behind me. What impressed me was the C6 roadster that went by us like we were standing still when we were at 110-115.

                  Rick,
It has crossed my mind about popping the 327 out and going back to the original style pistons and a 350hp cam. Although it wouldn't be completely original due to the motor being bored 30 over.

And at 115, the c6 probably had the radio blasting and the a/c on!
I would have had a white knuckle death grip on my c3 steering wheel!
