Yes it is. I have the materials from Palmetto Enterprises. I got them at the Knoxville Corvette Expo about 15 years ago and am still using them. I have the gray which THEY noted as Zinc and the black which THEY noted as manganese. I've found it very easy to do successfully.

      Alan
I've been using their manganese for several years as well, with excellent results.

        Steven,

Here are some close up pictures that show the notes I made as well .

        Alan,

Thanks! I call it "Plating 101" or "Plating for dummies like me who would never remember where anything went otherwise"
It will also be a good reference if anything is misplaced, lost or just falls out of the baggies later.

Steve, I can tell you from experience getting the FI parts replated that your request would be extremely expensive but not impossible.
Let me guess that you are keeping the parts separate for identification. If this is the case write the info down and or take some digitals.
Recently I had 4 long WB front bumper to brace bolts, flat and split lockwashers and 4 of the 5/8" OD nuts blackened. (for my 63) Cost was $55.00!!!
I mean I could have done them myself for peanuts.

So using the same plater I had about 3000 of fillister screws blackened (loosely used term. Cost was $75.00!!! Various sizes of screws all mixed together. Go Figure.

So I did make a phone call to the nice plater for the high price of the four lousy WB bumper bolts and was told the small batches are a royal pain in the butt and he prefers larger batches and the bill will reflect that. Minimum charge was not mentioned although I was waiting for that reply.
I can appreciate the platers gripe.
But if you insist and clearly mark the bags and the person can read them you can get exactly what you want done for mega bucks.
There are many ways to make a bolt look black. You all had better know exactly which type of plating or finish you so desire. Black phosphate, Black oxide, Black Zinc (looks like plastic), etc. Very confusing.

Although you didn't ask Eastwood has a nice green chemical to "blacken" your bolts. Trick is in the preparation. JD
