71 BB Water Pump By-Pass Hose

I am finally ready to paint my motor for my 71 BB and am not sure how much of the by pass hose got painted. I understand there was some kind of mask put over it. Does anyone have a picture of a motor showing the by pass hose after painting. Also if someone can describe or better yet have a picture of a mask for covering the hose that would be great.

I'm not aware of any specific mask that was used to avoid painting the bypass hose during the engine paint process. There may have been one, but I doubt it. The painter probably just made a minimal effort to not paint the hose. In fact, much of the engine didn't necessarily get the best paint job anyways. I would venture to guess that a perfectly clean hose would draw attention as definitely out of the norm. Otherwise, any overspray from a little on the clamps to full colored hose would be more acceptable as the way the engine painting step was carried out.
