    Milford Proving Grounds

I'm too tired to post much about the Regional, but just had to post a picture like this.

Ahead of my own Jetstream Blue 2008 (which you don't see) is Terry McManmon in his 2008 JSB Z06. (i.e. Ze06)

You can't tell, but we're at 120 mph on the GM high speed test track. We both wanted to go faster, but his passenger (he tells me) was getting nervous. My wife was not, and it was as smooth as cruising at half that speed. The new cars are impressive, as my 71 and 72 would be a handful at that speed. I hit 130 a couple of times on the other straight line track, and had to slow down a few times to avoid running into a friend of mine. Way too much fun.

    Patrick,
Sounds like you didn't hear Art at the staging area state that 80 might be the prudent speed to adhere to. Somehow my 67 speedo spiked to the area of 110 but how could anyone believe an old car of 40 plus years would have a reliable speedometer. These old cars just can't be trusted! Great time and thanks for your hard work.

Patrick I believe the HUD would have shown the speed reflected in the windshield -- at least I have seen such images posted by others. We probably shouldn't let certain people know the velocity we achieved. We do want to be invited back.

The car in front of me is the 2007 of Paul Oslansky (Monterey Red coupe -- A6).

There had to be around 100 Corvettes out there. There are some other group pictures that ought to be wonderful.

At the time Patrick took this picture I was in 5th gear and the valves at the mufflers were not even open. It was as smooth and quiet as a cruise to Sunday church services. The new Corvettes are outstanding machines, and a great bang-for-the-buck. I noted a lot of smiles back at Bakers after the Milford tour. Even Art was smiling as he complained about losing his hat and antenna.

BTW: Thanks to the many Michigan Chapter members who worked so hard to make this a great event. This one will be talked about for a long time to come. I still can't get over the Lingenfelter cars Friday night. They were stunning.

You must not have heard my comments when he said that.

Art - "...and you can take it up to about 80 on the track."
Unidentified member - "What do we do then?"
        Patrick - "Shift!"

Same gear and quietness in my car.
I assume you saw my picture of Art's antenna in the other thread.

I saw your picture of Art's hatless head after I posted. I encountered Art in the man's room at Bakers after the tour of Milford. He was complaining about his lost hat and broken antenna there.

I hope Jeff Cook was bale to get his flat tire repaired/replaced. There were several PV failures among the Corvettes. Three or four, I think, but that is a 3 or 4% failure rate. Not too bad given the age of the cars.

Here is a shot of Werner's boys misbehaving at Milford and that phantom silver C6 convertible behind them that passed me at some ridiculous speed ( I think his name was Joe Roebuck).

"He was complaining about his lost hat and broken antenna there." Yeah, but I would do it again tomorrow if I could!

And My OLD 65 rag top was doing 115 clicks, which my grandson has on film, when a silver C6 passed me like I was standing still.......wow what a thrill.

I'm so very glad that we didn't have any incidents and played SAFE!

Hell it just took me 15 minuets to type the above.............I think I need sleep.......no, I know I need sleep!!!!!!

                  Re: Milford Proving Grounds

The trip to the Milford Proving Grounds was a blast. Thanks to the folks in the Michigan Chapter and at GM for setting it up!

I had heard stories about the proving grounds, but they really don't do it justice. The complex is huge. Big and small ovals, road courses, long straights, black lake... And that's just what we saw in our brief visit. It is impressive to say the least.

The new cars are absolutely incredible. Being able to take advantage of some of the performance they offer (for a change) was a real treat.

You're right Terry, this one is going to be talked about for a long time.

                  Regards,

                  Stan
