I changed my oil and filter today. Again, I am reminded my dipstick is incorrect for the car. It is a repo., with chrome tube and skirt on handle with the incorrect dimple designating it incorrect according to the 65 JG. Also, it does not give accurate oil level readings. Shows one quart low. 6 quart??? Anyway, the old dipstick which came with this original engine car shows the level is full as it is. The repo. stick will not slide onto tube (tight fit) as far as old stick giving an ADD oil reading. The old dipatick has lost all of it's chrome, if it ever had any. It may also be wrong. The numbers/lettering stamped onto the OLD dipstick blade are of course ADD FULL USE GM6041-M-QUALITY MS OIL E (E is stamped at 90 degrees off). Any thoughts on where I can find a correct dipstick? Are the repos. better now? Is my old dipstick correct. The handle and skirt are covered in rust. Thnaks DG

Re: Any original 65 350HP oil dipstick help?
Donald, Dick --- I dunno; am comparing those LIC pics with my (I think) original (?) that was on my early '65 L76, purchased in 1980. I see some differences. Here's 3 pics of mine. The LIC handle loop is not bent to attain almost 90 degrees to the shaft (where the black button is). Mine almost touches the straight handle. Also, the tubing at the top is more flattened during the bending, compared to mine.
On the bottom of the dipstick, the LIC example looks as though the lettering was stamped from the front, rather than embossed (debossed ?) by impacting from the backside.
Any comments on mine (is it incorrect ?). Hope Richie doesn't get on my case for this.

Oh, I'd rather have an original, but I'm in the same boat as Dick. Until I can run across an original, the LICS repro will have to do. You are correct that the markings on the repro appear engraved rather than stamped in relief.- Top

Re: Any original 65 350HP oil dipstick help?
How do I contact this LIC or LICS? I couldn't Google it so it's an acronym for what? I worked for the Feds for 32 years and I thought I had seen enough of acronymns.
Thanks,

Scott,
LICS is Long Island Corvette Supply. Sorry about that; I should have included a link to their site. Here ya go!

Re: Any original 65 350HP oil dipstick help?
Thank you, Donald! I hadn't seen that reference to LICS before and I am anxious to see if their 1970 and 1971-1972 LS-5 dipsticks were as close to originals. The ones by LICS for the C-2 were impressive.
Those service replacements are, well....undesirable. And to make them less attractive they are erroneously touted as NOS.
