    1962 Jack

I'd appreciate your thoughts on this.
From a Bloomington Gold judging perspective, does an original, unrestored 1962 jack (in good working condition) with some original black paint and gray primer left get fewer deductions than if the jack were bead-blasted and repainted?
    Thanks much,

    Bill

From my several trips to Bloomington they seem to like clean and shiney. This part is only original once and seems a shame to blast and paint but I know you would get a deduct if you did not.

Bill, I've found that the very best judges in the country appreciate originality and would prefer that over juding a "restampmobile". If I were you, I'd leave the jack alone. If you want juding points, buy a repro jack, lose 2 points total, and take the loss. (Today's repro jacks are almost undistinguishable other than the rivet ends--and most people have to put an original next to a repro to tell the difference--a number of "original" jacks on ebay have been aged reproductions.) Otherwise, if you completely redo your original jack, only a couple of dozen people in the country can tell that it's a redone original vs. an original, and you have then potentially significantly devalued the sale value of the jack. That's my humble opinion--I'm sure others will disagree.

At BG, that jack would get full credit for originality, but would get a minor deduction for damage/deterioration/rust.

          Thanks Jerry, Mike and John.
          I appreciate your collective perspectives.

I think I'll keep 'er as she is and try to get the 2 points back somewhere else....or beg for mercy !

It's sad but most 99 point Corvettes have to be a trailer queen , and there so over restored GM would be shocked to think any one thought it came out from the factory looking like that.
Go back to when a Corvette was rolled out from the factory (any year) and it "might" get a second flight award.
So make it pretty ,shiny ,wrap it in towels // you'll get 100 points.

              Roy,

To your point, I bought this car new on October 19, 1961 from Selman Chevrolet in Orange, CA...It essentially had no paint on the rear valance one inch up from the bottom, as the factory painter couldn't/didn't squat down that far with the gun. Today that area paint is as good as any on the car. May the Saints perserve us !

That's my point , in 61 your corvette would have never gotten a top flight when new with zero mileage.Never a Duntov award . Even to day look under a new Corvette like my 06 when I got it ,natural metal parts show rust, orange peel and more .To get 99 or 100 points today the Corvettes has to be trailer queen . Then usually sold .It's mostly a dealers game now not a hobbyist game. Every time I ever mention this you know what response I get. No one what to admit it.
That's why we should have a separate class, restored Trailered only and restored driven and forget mileage points.
                  But it will never happen!!!

Roy, You've got to be kidding...??? You really mean I'm not the only judge in NCRS...?!?!? Incredible insight on your part. Well, at least we agree on the judging of the '62 tire jack. That's a pretty amazing conclusion in itself. Best, Dennis

                            Also your last remark=

Mr DC: you inferred if I wonted change and that I should go join SACK and quite NCRS! I do realize I'm out spoken on some matters.but I'm OK with NCRS but not on everything so????.I also realize you don't like me and post smart remarks about me on some of my posting, why I don't get it. Pull any of my posting of the past where ANY comments I've made showed disrespect toward you.
I'm sure other will agree your not the only judge in NCRS (is that correct or is that statement showing disrespect ??)
This is the first time I've ever responded to your humor in the past I just let it go>
                            Best Roy
