    Keys for Judging C2, C3

I see a pair of NOS keys on flea-bay for $12,00 not coded. Jesser's sells each coded key for $75.00. Is it the coding and the removal of the knockouts what drives the price?

I agree. Try Pete. I used him for my 72 and I am quite happy with the work.

I third that response. Peter is the man.

The keys sold on E-bay may have the letter for the keyway turned a different way and no knockouts. The code and knockouts run up the price.I do not know if some judging manuals point out the correct codes for the knockouts. I had a set of knockouts from an unknown GM car that passed many times and cost me nothing. I agree with others to check with Pete.

The inexpensive keys for sale all over ebay are Stratec (?) later replacements produce after 1990. The letter codes are at a 45 degree angle. They have no knockouts and are thinner than original. Originals have the knockouuts and have the letters either horizontal or at 90 degrees depending on who the vendor of the locks/keys was-either Briggs and Stratton or Rochester Products. Both were used since a strike at BS in 1949 and the different orientation indicated the vendor. I have original examples of both. C2 from '63 to '66 had no letters but had an "R" in a circle on keys from BS. Rochester Products keys are labeled as such. 1967 keys had "A" and "B". C3 keys, except for '68, were the square and oval starting with "C" and "D" in '68.
