    '67 Spare Tire Tub

From practical experience is the JG correct when it states all original spare tire tubs don NOT have part numbers or manufacturer's markings? Has anyone ever seen any on original tubs? Thanks.

    Yes and No.
Not all tubs were dated either.

      Kirk:

I believe that most original tubs had the MFG manufacturer's logo and some sort of ID number, but they did *not* have a GM part number. I can probably come up with a photo of the MFG marking if necessary.

        Picture is always "necessary" Joe.

Thanks Don. That's what I was trying to describe, but I did not have a photo. Dick Capello was going to force me to go drop the spare on my car and take a photo, so you saved me the effort.

I believe the lid has the same marking, but with a slightly different number.

By the way, I have an old beat up tire tub that I bought at Carlisle for donor pieces to repair mine. This tub is clearly quite old and does not seem likely to be a reproduction. Interestingly, that tub does *not* have the markings shown in your photo. Most other original tubs I have seen do have the markings (but no GM part number).

Here's a pic of the lid. You are correct that it has a different number. It's hard to read, but this lid has an ink stamp of Feb 6, 1967.

Was there more than one supplier of tire tubs?

If you look into the ink stampings. You will find that only 1 in 10 has an ink stamping on original cars. It should not be a judged issue. People just assume it was on every one. Scott Sinclair can shed more light on this issue if you ask him.

Would just like to report, for my 1965 MY bretheren, that both my early and late '65s have the "MFG" oval with part # 19154 on the inside forward of the tub, and the MFG with 19146 on the outside lid, near the bolt latch, exactly as Donald Terry's pics show. Have owned these cars for eons.

Mine have no ink stamps, however. So it sounds like the TIM&JG's for '65, '66? and '67 require some editing.
