I will travel to Bend Or. this Sept. to have my 93 Ruby ZR PV'd. I have not observed my 1-4 light in my 6 Spd come up on the dash panel. Could it be an after market chip that blocks it out or can it be disconnected without a warning light. Too much electronics, my 57 was so much more simple. Maybe I'm just to old to understand the new gismos.

As far as I know, even if the skip shift is disabled by disconnection of the connector at the pigtail to the transmission-mounted solenoid, with or without the plug that John mentions, the light should still illuminate. With the skip shift disabled in this manner, though, the solenoid will not engage to effectuate the 1 to 4 shift.
Keep in mind that the skip shift is not a constant sort of thing; it's activation is determined by the car's ECM. There are many engine conditions under which it will not activate, at all.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 93 ZR-1 PV Question
Ed,
This question came up at the Chattanooga Regional last month and it was determined that the lamp will not illuminate with the ignition on or with engine start up. It will light only when the car is in 1st gear and driven at low rpm.
As was mentioned earlier, the connector could be disconnected in the harness.
Good luck with your PV! Our 40th Anniversary received it's Top Flight last month and the PV will be the next step.

Re: 93 ZR-1 PV Question
Thanks to all for the info. I took the vette to Guldstrands shop in Burbank, Ca. this AM. Got a call from Dave who is the main guy in the uga-buga high tech department. He installed the original chip, and the 1-4 light worked, along with the skip shift solenoid, which locked out 2-3. Joe, where to you keep your Ruby, mine is #384 and we are in So.Cal. Remember we are only one out of 240 sold. Going to be very rare in a few years. Be careful with your Lumbar air pumps. I failed my first PV attempt in Denver the first of this month due to the little pump unit and not the motor. The pump units are 35-40 bucks through Ecklers, good insurance and easy to replace. Other items are the gas filled rear glass tubes, they have to raise the glass to the stop without assistance.- Top
