Accessory add on Radio not GM

Added a remote Radio to my 55 under the original Radio with a changer in the trunk and love it. Yes the original Radio does work fine but sucks. Any one els done the same?

The cd changer is 20th century technology. I installed a Ken Harrison radio in my 66 Roadster with an iPod connector in the back. I then ran the iPod line up to the glove box, through the hole for the light and routed it around the glove box frame with simple plastic wire clips. I also installed a stereo speaker in the dash, and kick panel speakers on each side. The entire installation can easily be removed and replaced with the stock unit if I decide to restore for judging some day. In the meantime I can enjoy some good tunes while I drive the highways and byways.

I now have thousands of songs available (including 4 versions of "Get Your Kicks on Route 66") and never have to change cd's. It's the greatest!

Roy, This is what I came up with many years ago for my 59. It's a remote controlled AM-FM Stereo CD player.

Made up a bracket that clamps to the steering column just behind the wire harness clamp, along with a "old-school" slide bracket adapter I had from the old 8-track stereo days. Made up my own stereo speaker setup using 4" coaxials to fit in the 6x9 space.

The best thing is the remote, to control all of the "hidden" buttons etc on the radio. To remove the radio I just unplug the Molex connector for power/speakers, and the antenna cable, then it slides out forward.

p.s. The reason I have these photos with it out of the car.......I removed it for the Regional in January, and haven't gotten around to reinstalling yet. The hardest part is getting at the speaker. I still have scars from those sharp screws up under there!

Now Roy, don't you like the vintage sound of your original radio? It's suppose to sound bad. lolol.
