For judging purposes, would a date code of S522 (3-speed Saginaw, May 22) be acceptable on a transmission for a car with a build date of Dec. 7, 1960?

Re: '61 transmission date code
I would say no since it falls just outside the 6 month allowable "window". In general, I would say the 6 month "window" is generous, so pushing that limit is probably difficult to do. However, I do not know if these dates are even judged. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: '61 transmission date code
Does anyone know for sure whether the tranny date is judged? Do these casing numbers look right for 1961 Saginaw 3-speed: 3743368 main; 3787067 tail; 3845167 side.- Top

Re: '61 transmission date code
Your main case and extension housing have the correct casting numbers for a 1961 Corvette with Saginaw 3 speed. However, the side cover casting number is not correct. First of all, I think you'll find the number is actually 3845157. It's very easy to misinterpret a "5" and a "6" with casting numbers. In any event, the 3845157 side cover was used for L1955-56 passenger and Corvette Saginaw 3 speeds. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
