    What, No Global Warming?

    Kudos to latest issue of "Popular Hot Rodding" for printing in their Message Board a story about the NPR (National Public Broadcasting) broadcast on March 19 of a report that "in five years, 5000 very expensive floating Buoys and a half dozen dedicated satellites have been unable to discern an increase in the Earth's average temperature". In fact, according to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, there's actually been a slight decrease in Global Temperature. Also, a report out of NOAA"s National Climatic Data Center confirms that the winter of 2007-8 was the coldest (nationally and globally) since 2001. Never the less, we can expect the noose of government regulations to continue tightening under the assumption that global warming actually exists.

    Living in Florida, I guess made me unaware of the cold winter up north. Sorry fellows.

    ...and despite a growing body of evidence that temperatures are not increasing, but even decreasing and a growing number of climatologists that are predicting a cooling trend in the near term, McCain this week made a speech embracing the idea of global warming and reducing CO2 emissions to 1990 levels.

      Hello;
      The latest from the Al Gore crowd ( hoax of global warming ) is this is a 10-12 year break from warming?

        HaHaHa... Well, now that we got "John", we have to vote for him...we can only hope that he's not too old to handle the steep learning curve that comes with the office. But...he will, in fact, not have as far to go as the O-Man.

        As for campaigning, I'm thinking John would be better off to just put it on "mute" and autopilot. Except for an occasional FU ("Awwww, man, you mean Al Queda is not Shia?" ), it's almost there now. McCain should stand by as an interested observer until the "Gingham Dog" and the "Calico Cat" just eat each other completely up. (A reference to the pre-school story from OUR childhood...exposing pre-schoolers to the idea of stuffed animals consuming each other today would be horrifying to most PC educators.) HaHaHa...

          Why, when it comes to politics, are the voters relegated to having to choose the best from the worst bunch of scumbags on earth?

          P.S. As a Viet Nam vet, I still have to go with one of my comrads and, as he may have learned with what he's been through, you may have to bend like a birch to survive, but don't bend so far that you break.

            Flaming liberals and political correctness are taking over the country. Osama, excuse me, Obama was raised in Indonesia now he's supposed to be a great patriot. His wife has never been proud of the country until he ran for President. McCain is a Democrat cloaked as a Republican but he will get my vote. And I live in a state with Teddy K and John Kerry as my representation in Washington

              Here is the link to the story if anyone is interested.

              Thousands of robots deployed across the ocean have sent back an unexpected message: The seas have stopped warming. The results don't mean that climate change isn't happening, but they are causing scientists to rethink their climate models.

                On a site where Corvettes are the topic of the day, I find it somewhat sad that some members needs to bash their own members. I'm sure that there are at least a handful (maybe in the 15-20,000 member range) of NCRS members that consider themselves "liberals." and probably just as many who think that Barack Obama is a worthy candidate. I don't care who you vote for, that's your business. But attacking "flaming liberals" and a candidates name (thanks, Rush!) is slightly off topic of Corvettes. And besides the point, Obama was born in Hawaii, spent only 4 years in Jakarta and at age 10 returned to Hawaii. You going to blame a man for the travels of his mother, who married a man from Indonesia and became Barack's stepfather, not his real father. His own father came from Kenya. Maybe this little tidbit about his grandfather may make you more knowledgeable about his past:

                "Obama's mother, Ann Dunham, grew up in Wichita, Kansas. Her father worked on oil rigs during the Depression. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, he signed up for service in World War II and marched across Europe in Patton's army. Dunham's mother went to work on a bomber assembly line. After the war, they studied on the G.I. Bill, bought a house through the Federal Housing Program, and moved to Hawaii."

                Sounds like he grew up around a pretty basic, All-American set of parents and grandparents and maybe they served during WWII with some of your relatives!

                  Re: What, No Global Warming?

                  It was not my intent when I introduced this topic to make any kind of political statement. I simply thought it was a subject we in the hobby should be interested in. But in that vein, I will say this; If this country takes a hard left turn come this November, it will probably remain in that direction for most of the following eight years during which time we can expect a lot of legislation coming out of Washington will have a detrimental effect on not only the values of our machines, but perhaps their mere existance as well. And that will render this TDB and any talk of a "Cars/Parts Sales" on it rather moot.

                  Thanks for the addition of the actual link to the NPR story. There are some differences to that of what was reported in PHR, but that's to be expected.

                  Sorry, let's get back to Vettes while we can still enjoy them.

                    Thanks for setting us straight on global warming. What do those pointy headed scientists know anyway? Those are the same people who staged those moon landings in the late '60s. They were really done in Arizona with trick photography. They stole your tax dollars. Probably to buy Porsches.

                    Don't stop at global warming. What about the earth being round??? Yeah, right. I look out my window, and it looks flat to me. More crackpot scientists. Probably from Massachusetts. They got big schools there full of 'em. That's what happens when you fluorodate the water. Makes you believe you came from monkeys. Well, not me, baby.

                    Gotta go. GD helicopter over my house is driving me nuts.

                      Steven;

                      I think the number of 15,000 to 20,000 liberal members in the NCRS may just be a bit on the high side.

                      It is inherently normal for all free men to be conservative by nature, yourself included. I believe the membership of this organization have well demonstrated their love for freedom and express it in their pursuit of an interest and hobby that might be considered by true liberals to be a selfish pursuit of fun, comradery and maybe a little self aggrandizement. So be it.

                      Back to Corvettes!
