    '71 Engine Pad Numbers

    Hi Guys,

Do these numbers look right on the engine pad of a '71 350/270 4spd? Sorry for the poor quality. Can't seem to get a better one without breaking out the paint stripper.
106001 matches the VIN, and CJL is a 350/270 4spd, but the other characters have me confused.

    C11S106001 V1229CJL

    Thanx,

    Mark

It looks OK to me, from what I can see of it. Later 1971 Corvettes used exactly the "prefix" to the VIN derivative that is seen here or "C11S". The "C" denotes Chevrolet. The first "1" denotes Chevrolet car. The second "1" denotes 1971. The "S" denotes the St. Louis, MO assembly plant where Corvettes were assembled at that time.

The "V1229" preceding the engine suffix code denotes the Flint Engine plant where all Corvette small blocks were manufactured (V) and the date the engine was assembled (1229 or December 29).
    In Appreciation of John Hinckley

Speaking from a judges perspective, the pad would warrant a total deduct. You are unable to see the machine marks and the paint is so heavy as to partially obscure the characters

Agreed. A simple swipe with some stripper should reveal a good stamp.

            Thank you all very much.

I'll just leave it protected by the paint that's on it for the time being.
