    Tire Carrier Bolts

Can anyone tell me how long the two bolts are that hold the lower cover to the chassis on a 1963 (late)?

    Thanks,

    Jerry-----

GM says that the spare tire strap bolts for a late 1963 Corvette, GM #3841463, were 9-1/4" long. These bolts had a "triangular stop" which was integral with the bolt forging. These were limited to use for later 1963 (and later models).

Earlier 1963 used bolt GM #3833383. This bolt is 9-5/8" long and I think it it used a welded nut for a "stop". It "returned" to become the SERVICE bolt for most 1963-67 when the GM #3841463 was discontinued in early 1968.

Also, there was another bolt used for VERY early 1963. It was GM #3820414. I believe it had a hex head on the lower end of the bolt (as installed in the car) and had no integral stop. It was 9-5/8" long. It was available in SERVICE for a VERY short period of time---from September, 1962 until March, 1963 when it was replaced by the 3833383.

Jerry -- if you have a copy of Noland's Vol 2 handy, the whole story of C2 strap and latch locking bolts, including GM drawings and pics, is shown on pages 108, 109, 300, and 301.
