    1969 Corvette 350 / 350 carb question.

Working on a quadrajet that i believe was original to a 69 350 / 350 with AC carb. Number looks good, but can't seem to figure out the date for sure. Stamp reads as follows.

    07029207

    Below that reads 0953

I've had this carb for years and thought it was the original, but the date doesn't appear as the books say it should. Any thoughts on this one guys ? Service replacement, or original ?

Service Replacement. The first "0" digit guarantees it.
In addition, it was likely made in 1983 or 1993. I don't think that the "0" was in use until about 1975.

Patrick, Rochester used the julian dating, 0953 would be the 95th day on 1973, '83, etc

The 7029207 carb was manufactured for MANY years (into the 90's) and used as a SERVICE carb for many 1968-69 Chevrolet applications. Consequently, there are LOTS of these carbs out there.

So, finding a correctly NUMBERED carb for a 1969 L-46 is easy compared to other applications. Finding a correctly DATED carb, if that's what one seeks, is not so easy.

Thanks all !! I suspected a replacement when I saw it. It was with a 69 a guy had for years and he believed it to be the original.

Always rely on my friends here for good info !! Thanks to all.

            Dick,

The number he posted is 07029207

The initial 0 is a replacement indicator.

The "0" prefix does indicate a replacement but I don't think that it represents any sort of intentional "coding" for a replacement carb. Most, if not all, carbs that have it happen to be replacement carbs. However, there are also replacement carbs that don't have it. For example, I expect that replacement '207' carbs manufactured in, say, 1970 or 1971, won't have the "0". I think the "0" was added after Rochester went to 8 digit part numbers. Rochester was one of the first, if not THE first, of GM divisions to go to 8 digit part numbers. This occurred in late 1973. Chevrolet, for example, did not go to 8 digit part numbers until about late 1978.

                Agreed.
That's why I mentioned it had to be an 83 or 93 carb.
I suspect that whenever the "1" prefix started on Rochesters for an 8 digit production carb, the "0" was added to the service carbs. But, that's just my thought.
