Is there a trick to installing the window and wing window door cranks on a 67 roadster with new Al Knocks panels? It seams I'm not able to push the cranks in far enough to engage them. Thanks in advance. Phil Anderson

Re: 67 door panel window cranks
Hello;
Experience indicates sometimes layers of foam have to be shaved away to allow the retaining uring to engage the groove on the window regulator.
It is a little tricky to work in between the panel card board and cover without damaging the vinyl.
Maybe someone else will answer on the fact of whether there should be a spring pushing out on the door panel, against the handle crank.
I have seen them with and without since new.
Hope this helps.

Re: 67 door panel window cranks
I'm not saying this is your problem, but there were at least three different versions of the vent window crank assy. If memory serves, they were different for coupe vs. convertible and the length of the shaft was one of the variables.
There have been articles on this in Restorer magazine and if I remember correctly the crank shaft has circular lines (different number of lines) distinguishing the different crank assy's. Could the problem be related to the cranks vs. your door panels????- Top

Re: 67 door panel window cranks
I just had a problem with Corvette America door panels. The panel was so thick that the main window crank wouldn't go on. After installing the escutcheon and bending the tabs I used a 3/4 flat washer on each side with a 3/4 bolt and nut. Tightened it and the bent tabs went from 1/4 bend to 5/8 bend. The escutcheon kept the panel pulled together and allowed the window crank to snap on.- Top

I think they are all tight when the door panels are new. It just takes some elbow grease and push like heck............

Re: 67 door panel window cranks
Phill,
This is no trick but in the past I put a bit of lube on the post and handle. Then pushed the handle in with one hand and gave the handle a hit with the other. Careful because things can break.
