    2x4 carb setup parts cost???

    I am looking at a 2x4 carb setup. 1299 airhorns, Body 049/1049. The carbs have old paint on them. One of the (weights and its arm) are Gone. These are the short arm weights. The (choke housing and cover) are Gone. Can someone tell me roughly how much one of these carb rebuilders would charge for these parts to be put back onto these carbs?? Can these parts be had from Passenger car carburetors? For a straight out rebuild/restoration by Custom Rebuilt Carburetors out of New Jersey the price is $345.00 each if they get both carbs, parts are extra. I could not get an answer from Kunz or Jerry MacNeish today. Who else should I call. If you Know of other builders who replate and Not paint, can you give me a contact number? Thanks DG

    Dick;

    A while back I had a 1961 283/245 car and went to Phil at Custom Rebuilt to get a set of correct carbs. I found his work to be very good for what that is worth.

    On your other post on 283 potential, you might check out Competition Engines in Raritan, NJ. I know that they have fit 327 cranks into 283 blocks, a number of times,with excellent results. My buddy has one in his 1961 FI "driver" and it really screams.

      The source I use for Carter rebuilding is:

      Eaglehead Restoration
      11135 Poplar Ford Trail
      Manassas, VA 20109

      Dick Katter
      (703) 754-7547

      Dick, like Bob Kuntz supplies the missing parts, includes replating in the service and test runs the finished carbs to grade his own report card. Costs should be similar to what you've seen (around $300 each) and Dick's work is seen frequently Bloomington Gold and Mark of Excellence cars.

      The only caveat is Dick does NOT supply reproduction ID tags which you need to source separately.

        Thanks for the replies. I appreciate the sources. I bought my 65 350HP 2818 carburetor restored from Custom Rebuilt Carburetors. After engine initial startup we could not get a response from the driver's side adjusting screw. Turning the screw in or out made no difference in the idle of the engine. Sent the carb back to CRC. They found a pinhole in the metering body robbing vacuum from the left side. They installed a new metering body onto carb and shipped it back to me. Took less than 2 weeks to get back. NO Charge. I was very happy with the service. DG

          I just spoke to Mr Katter. He informed me Choke housing and cover: $100.00. Weight with it's arm: $50.00. Fast idle lever: $45.00. Thanks DG
