You guys may already have this but I thought it might be of interest in regards to the procedure of stamping the delivery date on the VIN tag and subsequent problems with the spotwelds popping loose requiring multiple spotwelds.

Re: 63 Delivery Date Stamp
Cecil;
Thanks for that information. I never really knew the reason or importance behind the delivery date stamp. Mine is a rather different animal in that the dealer stamped the month, day, and year (TWICE!). I was in the service then stationed at White Sands in New Mexico. The car was ordered through a dealer in Wisconsin, to be picked up on leave and driven back. For some reason, we had to delay our leave by one week and the dealer anticipated our delivery date a week early. He stamped it once, then a week later when we actually took delivery. Perhaps that extra space provided them with too much leeway in their interpretation of the Service Release.

Re: 63 Delivery Date Stamp
Yes, Cecil, they came through in tact. Mine was a July 8 build, and we picked it up in August. They probably had the spot weld problem resolved by then. A number of NCRS judges and experts have looked at mine because of it's original owner and condition, and they always comment about the serial plate. As I said, I never really understood the great significance of it and your information has shed some light on that for me. Thanks.

Re: 63 Delivery Date Stamp
I have a number of images of trim tags with the delivery date stamped on them (instead of on the VIN plate); it was a lot easier to stamp aluminum than stainless, and there were no spot-welds to break. Most dealers simply ignored the directive from Central Office and didn't stamp anything.- Top

Re: 63 Delivery Date Stamp
John brought up an excellent point. Now I truely know why they were interested. Mine is double stamped, alright, but on the trim tag. I just went out to the garage and checked. Sorry to lead you astray Cecil.
