    '69 judging question

How many points are deducted for a right side rear view mirror (dated glass) and a luggage rack? I drive my car and enjoy both. Can a 'driver' make 'Top Flight' with such? Does a 'driver' stand a chance of making 'TF' with the unavoidable smudges, nicks, etc associated with driving the car? I have the JG, and I've done the best I can, but I don't want to make a trailer queen out of something I enjoy. I'd appreciate comments--Dick Whittington are you there to respond?

Driver can certainly make top flight, especially if driven to an event, the driving points really add up. Also, a good (well maintained) "driver" is not as prone to losing "ops" points, which at 25 per failure add up quickly!

Usual rule of thumb is not to deduct for the presence of such add-ons, but to remove points for the percentage of the car body surface that the parts are covering up, or alternatively for the number of holes that are drilled to attach the accessory.

For the mirror, maybe one or two points as a deduction, for the luggage rack maybe 6 or so. Most judges are very lenient towards typical options like these.

As Bill said, compare the points above to losing 25 points for an inop dash lamp.
