    Re: Fire at Pipers

Joe, I also had the fortune of going through some stuff on my own just last summer. Looking for some door lock/mechanism and J.T. and his son told me to pretty much have at it. I know there is no good in this story but I believe (and someone correct me if I'm wrong please) he had some other buildings and semi trailers with some parts stored. I know that doesn't replace 30-40 years of vintage Corvette parts but hopefully he can get back on his feet. Many have talked in the past about their prices being high but the 2 times I was there I didn't feel that way. I gave them a lead on a re-chrome shop in San Diego and I believe they had some good luck with them. Anyway our thoughts and prayers go out to them. This can't be a good week for them.

Yes, my recollection is that there were several buildings in sort of a "complex". There was the main, largest building which also had their office in it. That's the one I "toured". This building was mostly wood, but it might have had a metal roof. I didn't get into most of the others. There were a few other buildings besides the house. There was one that I also was shown through which had a large number of restored Corvettes, mostly C1, as I recall (I think I have photos around here somewhere).

The fellow I talked with and who showed me the cars, one J. B. Quinn, told me that J.T. also had other off-site buildings with more Corvettes and lots more NOS parts.

I agree with the other posters. That is a loss to the hobby. I managed to obtain some very hard to find items from them, and yes, they weren't cheap.

          Fire at J.T.Pipers - update

I live close (Terre Haute, Ind) and used Piper's a lot for parts for my 58. I just talked to them Saturday and he said they are still open for business, and were the next day. They are still going thru the debri and salvaging what they can. Their computers are toast, but the phone still works. They have set up temporary shop across the street and luckily had some inventory stored in other places.
