    C3 Rocker Panel mounting - 74'

I have to remove the left side rocker panel so I can access the bolts which hold the splash shield for the charcoal cannister. I doubt if these screws have ever been out and understand they frequently break off. I can see 2 or 3 are small bolts with nuts that I can reach. The middle ones appear to be small bolts going into some type of insert. The insert, what I can see of it, appears to be metal but one vendor sells plastic inserts.

Question: What is the thing the middle bolts screw into and can they be replaced and what are they made of - plastic or metal and any suggested names of vendors who sell the screws and nut inserts?

    ROBERT-
i just got done putting my restored cannister and mounting bracket back in place. I did NOT remove my entire rocker panel to do so. I removed the first 2 rocker screws and was able to ratchet the bolts holding the lower splash shield. If the hole will accept a nylon insert I'd use that to hold the rocker screw.

The original screws had a machine screw thread. The nut was a welded in part on the three center screws. If you can't remove the screw and need to drill out the head I have retaped the hole. The vendors at one time sold a 1/4'' bolt and nut that had the correct thread in the center for the screw. You drilled the hole in the metal to 1/4" and put the nut on the inside. I have made these parts on a drill press out of short 1/4" hardware store common soft bolts.
