I've used a brass punch--that should work without damaging the lock ring.

Wanting to tighten the worm bearing adjuster cup to see if I can get rid of the "slop" in my steering. It takes turning the steering wheel from 12-2 oclock until the wheels start to turn. I assume I need to tighten the worm bearing. The Manual says to losen the lock nut first and I didn't want to damage the lock nut. I'll try Mike's idea of the brass punch.
            Thanks

For to much play when you turn the wheel ,have some one look. It is spring loaded (see pic) at each end. This is the parts used.
